Following the passing of Brian Wilson, surviving members of The Beach Boys have expressed their deep sorrow and paid tribute to their friend and bandmate. A day after Wilson’s family announced his death on Wednesday, June 10th, the band shared a heartfelt message on their official Instagram account, reflecting on their time together.
“The world is mourning a genius, and we grieve for our cousin, friend, and partner in a great musical adventure,” they wrote. Wilson formed the iconic group in 1961 with his brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine.
Their statement continued, emphasizing Wilson’s pivotal role: “Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys—he was the soul of our sound. The melodies he dreamed up and the emotions he poured into every note changed the course of music forever. His unparalleled talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack of so many lives around the globe, including our own.”
The Beach Boys conveyed their devastation, stating they are “heartbroken by his passing.” They promised to cherish the memories they made with Wilson and committed to preserving his legacy through his music and their shared experiences.
Concluding their message, the band sent their condolences to Wilson’s family, who have also mourned the losses of Carl and Dennis Wilson in 1998 and 1983, respectively.
