During his official visit to the United States, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with a large gathering of overseas Pakistanis in Washington D.C., where he acknowledged their significant contributions to Pakistan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir emphasized the vital role these individuals play as ambassadors of Pakistan, strengthening the nation’s economy through remittances and investments, and enhancing its global image through their achievements in diverse fields. He expressed his deep appreciation for their continued support.
The overseas Pakistanis warmly welcomed Field Marshal Munir and lauded the armed forces’ exceptional performance during “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” and “Marka-e-Haq,” recognizing their bravery and professionalism. They also shared their experiences and ideas with the COAS. Field Marshal Munir stressed the importance of continued engagement and collaboration with the diaspora to address shared challenges and foster cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment from both Field Marshal Munir and the overseas Pakistanis to work together for a more secure, prosperous, and resilient Pakistan.
This visit takes place following recent events where India launched unprovoked attacks on multiple Pakistani cities and air bases in response to an April 22nd attack in Pahalgam. Pakistan retaliated with “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” on May 10th, targeting several Indian military sites. Pakistan claims to have downed six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales, and dozens of drones. A ceasefire brokered by the United States brought the conflict to an end after approximately 87 hours. The initial attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that triggered the military confrontation resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, with India blaming Pakistan without providing evidence.
In recognition of his exceptional military leadership, courage, and bravery in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for his courageous defense against the enemy, COAS Munir was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.
