On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with Veeraya Kate Somvongsiri, the outgoing Director of the USAID Mission in Pakistan, for a farewell meeting at CM House in Karachi.
The meeting, also attended by Sindh Planning and Development Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Chairman of the Planning & Development Board Sindh Najam Shah, Secretary to the CM Zaman Narejo, and US Consul General in Karachi Scott Urbom, focused on the collaborative efforts between the Sindh government and USAID.
Chief Minister Shah commended Somvongsiri for her service to the people of Pakistan, especially those in Sindh. Discussions included the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Programme (MCHIP), which operates in 15 districts of Sindh and aims to improve the health and well-being of mothers and newborns in underprivileged communities. The Chief Minister emphasized the Sindh government’s financial commitment to the project.
Shah also informed the US officials about a new initiative in partnership with the World Bank, designed to provide clean drinking water, improve sanitation, and enhance healthcare facilities throughout Sindh. This project, he stated, will also contribute to the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for flood victims in the province.
Somvongsiri expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for his cooperation, which enabled her to effectively serve the people of Sindh during her time in Pakistan.
