Speaking at the inauguration of Karachi’s first INVEREX Electric Vehicle (EV) showroom on Sunday, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced the Sindh government’s commitment to supporting eco-friendly industries through tax exemptions and comprehensive assistance to investors. He highlighted that under the guidance of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, special funds are being dedicated to green energy projects.

Minister Shah emphasized the provincial government’s dedication to promoting electric mobility and minimizing environmental impact. He, along with Inverex CEO Muhammad Zakir Ali and Director Abdul Rehman, toured the showroom, examining the electric vehicles and receiving briefings on their features, after-sales services, and the installation of home charging ports.

The minister noted the cost-effectiveness of electric vehicles, estimating the running cost at just Rs4 per kilometre. To further encourage the shift to electric transportation, he announced plans to establish EV charging stations every 30 to 40 kilometres on highways and in major cities throughout Sindh. Furthermore, new buildings in the province will now be required to incorporate EV charging facilities. Government-owned land will be allocated for building this charging infrastructure, and efforts are underway to expand the use of EVs for both cars and bikes.

To support the industry, the government will incentivize local production and provide tax relief to manufacturers investing in electric mobility and clean energy technologies.

During the showroom opening, Minister Shah participated in a cake-cutting ceremony and received a Sindhi Ajrak and cap. In recent statements, he has repeatedly underscored the Sindh government’s commitment to promoting green and clean energy solutions.

Just days prior, he announced the allocation of Rs25 billion in the provincial budget to reduce electricity costs for the public through solarization. He explained that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari envisions providing affordable, and in some cases free, electricity to citizens, especially those from underprivileged and low-income backgrounds. The government is actively working on distributing solar panels and implementing solarization projects across the province, with the energy department taking the lead on these initiatives.

He also added that various public welfare schemes would be executed through the block budget incorporated in the fiscal plan. He emphasized that the Sindh government held a clear majority in the provincial assembly, and did not require external support to pass the budget.
