During Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s budget speech in the Sindh Assembly on Friday, opposition members launched a vocal protest, creating a disruptive atmosphere. Legislators from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) gathered near the Chief Minister’s podium, voicing their strong disapproval.
The opposition lawmakers held placards criticizing the provincial government’s performance and denouncing the budget as “anti-people,” according to JI’s Mohammad Farooq. They also tore up copies of the budget in protest. Despite the disruptions, the Chief Minister completed his speech.
Following the session, Ali Khursheedi, the opposition leader from MQM-P, told reporters that his party rejects the budget because it fails to include development projects proposed by the opposition. He accused the ruling party of failing to provide meaningful relief to the people and of breaking commitments made during pre-budget discussions. Khursheedi further asserted that the budget neglects the development of urban Sindh and blamed the Chief Minister for the province’s current state. He vowed that the opposition would not allow the budget to pass unchallenged, emphasizing that the MQM-P would continue to advocate for the neglected residents of urban Sindh during the upcoming budget discussions.
