In Lahore on Friday, the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning Israel’s actions against Iran and urging the international community to step in and prevent further aggression against both Palestine and Iran.
The resolution, introduced by Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, specifically called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the UN Security Council to hold immediate meetings to address Israel’s “aggressive design.”
According to the resolution, Israel has launched multiple attacks against Iran, resulting in the deaths of Iranian nuclear scientists and military leaders, including Major General Muhammad Bagheri and Major Hussain Salami. The resolution further asserted that these actions constitute serious war crimes and have brought the world dangerously close to another global conflict. The assembly also condemned what it described as Israeli atrocities against innocent Palestinians, including women and children, in Gaza.
Drawing a parallel to recent international efforts to mediate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the resolution implored the global community to play a similar role in resolving the current crisis. The assembly also expressed its condolences to the Iranian people for the lives lost in the attacks.
In other news from the assembly session, Mumtaz Ali Chaang of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) raised concerns via an adjournment motion about contaminated water being supplied to residents of Rahim Yar Khan. Additionally, a member suggested exploring the use of cow dung and other animal waste for gas production.
The session also featured a lively debate between Rana Muhammad Arshad, the Chief Whip of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN), and Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan, an Opposition MPA, regarding wheat procurement. The session was ultimately adjourned until Monday after the Opposition pointed out that the quorum was incomplete.
