To cut down on Pakistan’s dependence on fossil fuels, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to finalize the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025 and quickly present it to the federal cabinet for approval. He gave this directive during a high-level meeting held on Saturday to thoroughly examine the policy’s framework.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of prioritizing efforts to encourage the use of electric vehicles. He stated that quick action is needed to support the adoption of electric motorcycles, scooters, rickshaws, cars, and buses.
He also highlighted the critical need to develop the necessary charging infrastructure. According to Prime Minister Sharif, the establishment of charging stations and battery swapping facilities is vital for a sustainable and widespread transition to electric vehicles.
The Prime Minister further emphasized the importance of supporting local industries in developing their manufacturing capabilities, especially for two- and three-wheeled EVs.
Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahmad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
